The Mongols were not one but a vast collective of many tribes and confederations of tribes from Central Asia and beyond. Under Genghis Khan and his descendants they ruled a vast empire that stretched from China to Poland and all the peoples therein.
In battle they boasted incredible mobility and firepower making them a dominant force in the 11th and 12th centuries AD.
The Mongol composite bow (made of horn, wood, glue and sinew) was a refined design, noted for its distinctive bridge on which the string rests. The purpose of this design was to give the string a little extra "pop" when the string snaps against it, giving this bow higher arrow velocity. The result was a deadly weapon in the hands of these superb horse archers.
The Mongolian measures 54 ¼" unstrung and 53 ½" strung. This bow has ash syhas with fine wood or horn laminations. Draw weights range from 35# to 60# and a draw length of up to 28". The ‘Mongol’ is powerful, fast, and elegant, all the qualities that once made the Mongol people conquers of much of the known world.
