Len’s career as a bow maker started mainly through his interest in military history and particularly that of the English and Welsh archers with their famous longbows. Len first picked up a bow as a lad when living on a farm. In his adult life he got back into archery when he helped set up the Leongatha Medieval Society, which gave him the opportunity to practice traditional archery again after a break of around twenty years.
Part of the medieval society's aims was to portray and educate others about English archers and, finding it hard to source medieval style bows, Len decided to have a go at making them himself. After a period of learning, experimenting and honing his craft, Len began using his own Longbows at traditional archery competitions winning many events with his self made ELB. It was at these events that we noticed the fine quality and passionate dedication Len injected into his archery and his bows. We invited Len to work with us, and he created Lionheart Longbows to enable others to share his love of the tactile history surrounding shooting the English Longbow. Len lives and works in the town of Leongatha in South Gippsland, Victoria.
